I started playing bass when I was a teenager after hearing JJ Burnell of the Stranglers - he's still one of my favorite bassists. So many amazingly good baselines.
You might also want to check out some Crass - some really great stuff there. Songs like Bata Motel or Securicor. |

This band helped me understand a lot of possibility in the role of the bass in punk/hardcore music.
