Can't get the right sound for recording

Hi

I have a Line6 ux1 audio interface and the pod farm 2 plugin. I also have the AMPEG SVX plugin. When i plug my bass in my amp it sounds really bright and just the way I want it for my recordings. But I can't get the right settings from my plugins , because the recording sounds so dull , how can I make it as bright as my amp ?

( I'm Dutch , so sorry for grammar . I also have installed new pickups and strings , so it has nothing to do with old gear.)

Put a mic in front of your amp?

Well , I just spent my money on the upgrades and the recording gear , so I would really like to have a good sound with my new gear, instead of buying a microphone. But thanks for the advise

I found this website that has a lot of good info...

http://therecordingrevolution.com/

Here are a few items that might be helpful

Just keep playing with the toys you already have and actually "Learn" how they work. I don't mean this in a mean way, but so much of the time we all head out looking for a "Magic Bullet" to fix the problem thinking that "if I only pick up this plug in" or "that amazing bass" that suddenly all will be good in the world. It's simply not true. All we really need to do is gain more experience with the stuff we have and truly learn what it's capable of, or try different mic positions, different compressor settings, etc... Good luck and have fun

One thing you might want to try is mixing a dry DI signal with the amp modeled signal.

That way you will keep the snap and brightness of the strings while getting the modeled amps sound. This might take a bit of experimentation but that is the best way I have been able to figure thus far.

Unfortunately, it still doesn't sound as good as my bass amp, but it will sound much closer than just the modeled sound.

I am not sure how the Line 6 works but does it record a clean track or does it record the distortion on to the track?

If it is clean just duplicate the track and only put the amp sim on one of them. It is basically the same thing that is being shown in the video in the link from the other poster.

It records the distortion on track. I have to setup the sound I want and then just select in and record , it's a good method , but i'm not happy that it sounds a bit dull and not like my amp .

I have a UX2 and just use the stock Line 6 Gearbox application to get the bass tones. If the stock ones don't work I just pick the tube preamp setting and adjust from there. I will try and find a sample.

I often add a Pultec Pro EQ to the bass track to help it cut thru the mix. Another thing to remember, though, is to EQ your kick and bass guitar track differently.

I record as a clean line than I change the sound with the plug ins. Because whatever you add to the recording line, they are getting married with the music and there is no return.
