Carlos Santana: Havana Moon, Blues For Salvador

I picked up these two albums at my local HMV for 10 bucks for the pair. These are the only Santana albums I own, and I must say that these albums are pretty good, 80s production aside. I've been meaning to pick up some of his albums from the 70s, but I'm more curious on what some Santana fans out there think of these two albums. I picked up Blues For Salvador since I saw Chester Thompson plays on it and songs such as 'Trane and Mingus caught my eye. Other great musicians I like on this one like Alphonso Johnson and Tony Williams.

Two of my faves also, esp. because they reach a bit beyond the Santana that most people know (and as good as ANY Santana is also). I've already worn out my Blues for Salvador CD, and have to replace. Congrats on your finds.

I heartily recommend Santana/Buddy Miles Live! Recorded in Hawaii in the early 70s, it has one of the most exciting live cuts I've ever heard, Buddy's "Them Changes". This is the definitive version IMO, beats the Band Of Gypsys version by a mile. Buddy's vocal is just incredible, he's one of the greatest screamers of all time, and the groove laid down by the Santana band is totally irresistible. Plenty of other good stuff on it, but it's worth the price for that cut alone! I've bought it on CD twice so far!

Órale,
Here's one of my personal fav's,
Santana III

AND....
Caravansari and Milagro.
But if you want to here a band do Santana better than what Carlos is doing now..check out Abraxas Pool! These cat's is the real deal ( Neal Schon, Chepito, Michael Schrive, Gregg Rolie and Alphoso Johnson). Carlos is just a Las Vegas copy of himself now!
