I don't know if anyone's done this before, but I came up with a list of CD's [I think] every bassist should own. I left out very obvious ones because I need suggestions from you guys!
On with the list:
1. Rancid - And Out Come the Wolves
2. Alien Ant Farm - ANThology
3. Audioslave - Not real sure, I love them both. Suggestions wanted!
4. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
5. Green Day - Dookie
6. Rage Against the Machine - Evil Empire
7. Led Zeppelin - Suggestions wanted!
8. Tool - Lateralus
9. Los Lonely Boys - Self Titled
10. Metallica - Master of Puppets or Ride The Lightning (which do you reccomend?)
11. Dream Theater - Train of Thought
12. The Les Claypool Ferocious Flying Frog Brigade - Purple Onion
13. Rush - Rush In Rio (suggestions wanted)
14. Primus - Sailing the Seas of Cheese
15. Infectious Grooves - Sarsippius' Ark
16. Victor Wooten - Suggestions wanted!
17. Yes - Ultimate Yes (Disc 1)
18. Voodoo Glow Skulls - The Band Geek Mafia
Now obviously, you guys are thinking, "Where the hell is Stanley, and Larry Graham, and Jaco?!" I need suggestions of what CDs by them are good.
So is this a good list, or no?

I've heard OF them, but never heard their stuff.

I really enjoyed it at the time, but I dunno, I sorta stopped listening to bass as much as I fanatically was. I think the article had Led Zep. 2 and Weather Report's Heavy Weather album for Jaco, a yes album, a tower of power album, I know oscar Peterson's Night Train was on there for Ray Brown (really a great album not only for Ray Brown but Oscar Peterson as well). Marcus Miller's a show of hands was on it. Some Vic Wooten album was. A beatles on too. All in all it was generally a "safe" list.
But like i said I really don't listen to many bass players as much.
I know I really really freaken love this band Dredg though......just beautiful....and everyone is amazing.
good luck,
-eric |

As for Victor Wooten, gotta go with A Show of Hands (funkedup, that was Vic, not MM). All bass, all the time.
Hey, try out Primus - Rhinoplasty (gotta love Les Claypool playing Stanley Clarke!)
And Cream - definitely Cream. And Pink Floyd, DSOTM.
=0)

I do not own any of the albums on your list.
Does this make me a bad person, or merely a bad bassist??

Eaves playing on this album is excellent and his tone is amazing.

U mentioned it, but +1 to Tool- Lateralus, and Undertow as well!
I would say Garage Inc. by metallica has some wicked bass on it, and finally: KILL EM ALL PEOPLE! if for anesthesia and nothing else! |

This album was a huge huge huge letdown for me. With the exception of the ballad, and a couple other songs, I didn't like it at all. Their singles were catchy/funky kinda rock. But the rest of the album was generic Nu-Metal, bummer.

Beastie Boys - Ill Communication
This is seriously some of the best hip hop bass playing I've ever heard.

That pretty much sums up both styles of music. Country and Western. |

Just my opinion...no disrespect. Yours seem kinda pigeonholed, genre wise...
Where's the Beatles? Where's the PFunk? The Motown? The alternative edgy stuff? I could go on...world music, acid jazz...etc, etc...
That's really the only problem with these lists is that they are so personal perspective. I for one have no use for Flying Frog Brigade, but the next guy may.
