I recently discovered Sonia Dada from Chicago. Go to this link and select the song "Never See me Again". The song has this massive shuffle groove thing that just gets me moving. Anybody else like it?

Always dug 'em. The Subdudes have a bit of that vibe also... Street Symphony is a great disc from them.

Tastey is a good word to describe his playing. I really liked the stuff he played in his short solo. Very effective. He doesn't overplay and he leaves you wanting more.

Kjung...thanks for the mention of The Subdudes. I discovered them last year.

Can you guys suggest other artists similar to this?

Haven't heard anything else that really captures that vibe.

Thanks for posting that link!

You're welcome.

Here's another groovy track from another band, Howard and the White Boys:

http://www.howardandthewhiteboys.net...TOKEN=91413836

Look at the bottom of the page and you'll see there's a song playing. There are three songs to be heard. Check out Black Cat Bone (I think...I shut it down before confirming it....in any event, it's the third song.)

Different style of music, but again, a driving bass line.

Howard and The White Boys have been around awhile, I saw them in a small club about twelve years ago, they tore it up!

Little Feat bassist Kenny Gradney is the epitome of tasty bass playing in a rock-blues-gumbo format.

Spanish Moon, Time Loves A Hero, All That You Dream or Dixie Chicken should give you a idea of Kennys style.

Got your GAS list in circulation for Feb 25th?

I'll look for those tracks tonight. I look forward to it.

I remember driving home from Thursday night practice sometime around 1978 and hearing Dixie Chicken for the first time and I was hooked from then on.

Ok...now I'm excited.

Funny, as I get older, I find myself looking for new material more and more.

Thanks for the tips.

Hey bmc, I know this is a bass site but when I see that you are (perhaps) interested in Little Feat, check out the "Waitin' For Columbus" album, and listen to the song, Willin' and see if the piano solo doesn't take you to another realm. OK, back to bass. All of this CD is excellent groove.

In the top five of best live rock albums in my mind.

There is a nice box set by them called 'hotcakes and outtakes' that has most of the classic old stuff, some wonderful rare live recordings and studio 'b sides', and enough of the newer stuff to give you a good sampling of the entire catalogue IMO.

Also, it contains a WONDERFUL, detailed history of the band.
