Yesterday I received a call from a good friend of ours, Jason Rubal. He had an idea to do an experimental recording session to see if the songs you hear today are all raw talent, or if the gear makes a difference...

So we are going into the studio on tuesday the 4th, to begin tracking. Here is the deal:

3 songs... 1 the pro way... over 100,000 dollars in studio equiptment used to record, mix and master. No expense is spared.

Track two will utilize no gear costing over $100. I think the exeption is the instruments and the computer. All mics, preamps, mixers, cables, processors, and plug ins to master are all under the $100 mark...

Track 3 will probably be a "live in studio" track using both set ups.

We will be filming, and shooting pics of the experience, and will include the edited video on the 3 song EP. Packaged in digipaks and prepped for sale.

What do you guys think?

Here is our website/myspace to check our stuff out at. No song on the demo/myspace will be used in the recording. All of the songs are new to the public, but will fit the bill for this job...

By thre way... $300 bill for all 3 songs...

This is the studio we will be using.

Well, we are done.

I have to say. The Chandler Limited LTD-1 and the Drawmer 1960 tube preamps I got the chance of plugging into were incredible.

$150,000 in studio gear and rooms, and we tracked three tunes. Check out the myspace page for our track "Mystery".

It was a cool experience. All the drums, and bass tracks were one takes. The bass has 3 tracks for it, clean, fuzzed and phaser... All were first tries.

Everything here is is as it was, after production. No triggers, samples, or edits. We were done tracking instruments in 8 hours, vocals in 4, and mixing, mastering and tweeking in 12. We filmed a lot and will release a trailer for you tube, as well as put everything into an EP for purchase...

Yea, the place has really changed, and is a great spot to record. Everything you hear about his studio and the treatment is true....

And we got a deal... Made some great tracks... Paid very little... Jason, an old friend from way back is the man,
