Hi TB,

My band Among The Myrtle Trees recently finished up a recording of one of our original tunes, I'd love to hear your feedback about my playing and the song in general.

The details: basic tracking was done at FTM Studios in Denver. Mixing and mastering was done by Grant Robison out in L.A., IMO he did a great job but I'll let you all be the judges.

I played a stock Squier VM P Bass and went direct into the board. We added some light compression and Grant did a few small EQ tricks, but what you hear is pretty much the raw tone of the P.

Hear the tune at either myspace.com/amongthemyrtletrees or at amongthemyrtletrees.com.

If you're so inclined you can also download the song for free from amongthemyrtletrees.com, and we absolutely encourage burning copies/sharing with your friends

Bassman1987,
I like the song however, I needed it to take me to the next level, I felt maybe a key change would have got me there. Also I heard in my head the lady answering back to some of the I need you parts. and not just at the end. It will bring urgency to the song which it needs (you are telling me you lost your way and you need the Lord to put you back on track) well you need to sing it from your guts! make me believe you are lost because, maybe I am too and your song will take me out of my funk. Try it in practice then take it to the stage it was bound to happen in time but, this will be a little heads up Please take this as I offer it as one fellow bass player singer song writer only trying to help out. Listened a few times. Nice track - feels like it might be better with more aggressive vocals - music pushes harder than the vocal performance, good as they are.

I like it as-is, although I would have loved the bass to be a little louder (not far-away, as if done by the average church-soundman which for some reason fears the sound of bass).

Thanks for the great feedback so far everyone, I really appreciate it!

conqr I hear exactly what you're saying, our producer is constantly trying to get our singer to be more aggressive but as he's been singing in churches most of his life it doesn't come very naturally to him. He's slowly improving though!

And tobie of course you're right, the bass is never loud enough
