I invite everyone who likes heavy music to take a listen to my band's new demo.
We worked extremely hard on this and did it ourselves, and I think it came out absolutely fantastic (duh!)

Let me know what you guys think! I would seriously appreciate ALL forms of feedback. If you loved it, let me know, it if absolutely sucks, let me know. If you have suggestions, let me know. http://myspace.com/sordidcircle |

| | | Ok, I'm gonna give you the compliment sandwich here, but I'm just trying to be completely honest.
Overall, the production is decent. You can hear all the instruments clearly, which is an accomplishment when talking about a homemade recording.
That said, the vocals on "Nothing Left For Us" sound like you vocalist had his mic stuck in a used pair of Huggies. The rest of the stuff doesn't seem to suffer from this malady, but seriously, the vox on that one need some help. The vox on "March of the Martyrs" could be a little less distorted, too.
I hear some Pantera and Lamb of God influence in there, I think, particularly the harmonies on "Martyrs". The songs are constructed pretty solidly. The instrumental parts in "Nothing" go on maybe a BIT too long, but that's "under the microscope", so to speak. Interesting bass tone on "Martyrs"; did you use any kind of fuzz or anything to achieve that?
Good luck in the future, man! If you wanna rip me to shreds now , check out my band's stuff and lemme know what you think. http://www.myspace.com/officialarc
Thanks! -Joe |

And thank you for the comments, they are greatly appreciated!
And on March it was a VT Bass pedal with a Fender P with QP pickups. Fairly overdriven settings.
The other songs were an ibanez sr505 w/ the VT Bass
I'm going to show these suggestions to the band and see what we think
Thank you again! |

Thanks! -Joe | Joe,
Took a listen to your tracks and I have to say I'm impressed. I get this weird Death magnetic Metallica meets Opeth meets Jazz vibe
The drums on Quarterlife should be higher up in the mix - they sound really distant.
And I can understand your comment on my vocalist since you lack one :-P I would seriously thinking about adding one, but thats just personal preference!
Oh, and your basslines are pretty sweet as well, sounds like you put a lot of thought in where to put in the fills and your sound fits in the mix pretty damn well! |

| | | | Haha, yeah, we're working on the vocalist thing. We're all working on our simultaneous singing and playing skills, we've just not gotten quite comfortable enough to record any vox yet. And I didn't mean what I said as a slam on your vocalist or his abilities by any means, I just think that the sound of the vocals on the recording of "Nothing" are very, very muffled. It comes off kinda garbled sounding.
As for the drums on Quarterlife, yeah, they kinda are a bit. That one was recorded before we had our current lineup, it's just our drummer, Ian, and one guitarist, Kris. I'm not there, nor are Ben or Luke, our other two guitarists. It'll prob get rerecorded at some point, but we'd rather focus on new stuff than spending $ on rerecording old material.
And thanks for the compliments on my lines! I really appreciate it. One of the advantages of having 3 guitarists is I can kinda "step out" a bit more often without everything falling apart. I don't have to be the one "holding down the fort" all the time.
Yeah, Opeth is DEFINITELY a major influence on all of us. And I'm a jazzhead, too, so you're pretty spot-on haha.
Wish you the best, bro! I'll let you know when we get some vocal tracks up. |

His voice won't last long trying to strain to get his voice that low (easy to tell on "Deterioration"). In that same song he sings "deteriation"...like he skipped a syllable. Writer's license, I know...
For doing it yourselves though it does sound really good but the overall music has a kind of a been-there-done-that kinda feel to it.

His growls are actually pretty low volume wise, meaning he doesn't strain tooo hard.
I realize the music isn't super different from most styles of metal, but its certainly a breath of fresh air in my part of town! |

| | | I only listend to the first song. The recording is fine, but 'd suggest that the vocals follow the music a bit more. The music changes, but the vocals stay the same. It would be nice to hear his real voice for a change. The drummer might want to hold back a little more with his double bass fills. The change at the end to the undistorted bit could be a bit smoother.
All in all a very good effort though . |

I realize the music isn't super different from most styles of metal, but its certainly a breath of fresh air in my part of town! | Eb...maybe try in E? The screams were pretty good but the cleans were very monotone like he JUST couldn't get any lower. Any producer will tell ya the same thing. There's a balance between tuning low to get "that sound" with the guitars and staying within your singer's range. I promise you you're not in his range. That or maybe try singing in a different style? Like the other guy mentioned, the song changes but there's really nothing new coming out of his mouth - and I think that's where I was getting the been-there-done-that feel from too (which I didn't mean anything by - just trying to spark some creativity ).

We originally played in E, but when we kicked the old guitard out and brought in the new one he was rather insistent on Eb... (whoopdie doo)... It would be nice to have a slightly less floppy B though...

If I had an original demo copy I'd let ya listen to it but I can't find it on this computer. There's a HUGE difference.
