Hi,
I would like some TB'ers to maybe post a comment on my page or rate my songs. At the moment, I only have two songs on, one is a quick song I did in an hour or two, and the other is a MIDI file converted to mp3 in the style of an old gameboy game (and is in no way serious!)
Let me know what you think and feel free to leave comments on my page, the more the better!!
Thanks http://www.myspace.com/jamesbannerbass

I used a program called line 6 riffworks to record everything. The drums are a free REX file I found while searching google for drum loops.
My bass is a Spector Legend 5 classic, not expensive but it sounds pretty good. Tonewise, I just plug into the Guitarport (also line 6).
Hope that helps and thanks for the kind comment.

| | | | Great stuff, nice bass work.
I liked Game Boy, great use of that early Nintendo sound!
I liked the drums on Smooth V2
The solo bass in Fjazz was nice, but the funk part became a little irritating after a bit. Maybe the solo bass part should be higher in the mix and maybe a beak with no funk bass, just solo bass to give the listener a break.
Just my opinion.
Great bass playing |

Great bass playing | Yeah I agree the funk bass part is VERY annoying, I just laid it down so I could record a jam over the top when I was experimenting with some jazz scales. I am considering removing Fjazz from the playlist. Thanks for the comment.

Cool grooves and some tasty playing. I particularily liked "Smooth v2". Nice groove and drum part. This only real issue with this one is creating more separtation between your bass and lead parts. It's tricky to do when you are playing lead with the bass. You have to really emphasis the mids and highs to get it to cut though and not trample on the bass groove. With some mixing tweaks, it would be a slick tune.
Enjoyed it. Daren |

I have just uploaded a new song. It's a funky piece and unfortunately does use some g****r Only kidding, I enjoyed playing the guitar on this one, using a wah pedal is harder than most guitarists make it look.
Instruments were recorded using Cubase, drums were created on Reason.

The song you're referring to contains a lot of slap and pop because I was studying the funk genre of music for my music course at high school and that is the composition that resulted.

| | | | Gameboy sounded pretty good. You should go out and buy an EHX Micro POG, I can get fairly close to that "organ" style sound with it so you could do a remake w/ a real instrument, would probably sound really cool.
I enjoyed the "Undertaking 68th St" song, smooth.
I liked FJazz, but the riff felt old around the :45 second mark. You might want to consider playing longer phrases there to spread out the feel of the backing track.
I also felt like the solo bass portion of FJazz was really quiet and got lost in the backing track. |

BAD
"The production is the only thing taking away from the song, its not professional, the quality sounds to distorted at times, so its making the song sound less professional also"
"Dated electronic start, needs great improvement, very amateur keyboard sound and sounds like a keyboard demo from the 1980's, not any originality to the main structure of the song and not really any fun elements in there to make up for the whole retro sound of the song. Wouldn't give this song more than a 1 rating due to the amount of great acts out there trying to make it, as this has no potential. Improvement needed on all aspects, introduce some bass and drums would be a start."
"The track quality is very low, which makes me think its either mixed down on the wrong level or mixed at a low volume. not an very attractive sound to the track though, all of very plain sounds that just gives the track some leeway. You can get better at this production until then keep improving"
"very sythesized sounds a bit fake. better when the real sounds came in"
This made me laugh:
"This sounded like the attempt i made at playing my electric toy organ when i was five! A terrible noise, that was repetitive and dull. It was like fingernails being scrapped down a blackboard"
"Didn't really think alot of this track. Its all a little too over simplistic and takes along time to get going and when it does , doesn't actually get there. Its really just a drumbeat, with first a badly played keyboard over it, then a guitar, then a bass guitar. Not well arranged or executed at all, sorry"
"im feelin this alittle bit but i think that with some vocals this song would be lot more exciting but as of now its kind of a dud that neeeds more energy within the song"
"enjoyed the drum beat running through this track, not sure about the stylophone keyboard. bit too simplistic really"
Now the GOOD:
"Enjoyable early fast paced beat. The keyboard has an almost medieval feel to it. There is a circus feel to the tune, the sort of thing that might be played during the acrobatics of cirque du solei. This could play behind computer games quite well too as it has that circular aspect, the end meating the beginning without too much of a broken feeling"
"Honestly, the instrumental sounds good into the bubbles kick in. I think they shouldn't be in the instrumental, just stick to the basic drums, kicks, and bass lines for this type of symphony."
"The musicianship is pretty good. The arrangement is not bad. The production/mix need work so that it's more polished otherwise not bad."
"I absoultely enjoyed listening to this song track. i adore the drums and keyboards. what an awesome sound!!! i adore this delightful instrumental song"
