For those that are interested, my band has recorded our first song, "Consult With Humans" and have posted it on our website. It will begin playing when you visit our website at www.180theband.com. Please feel free to leave any comments (positive ones preferably).

Anyway, I used my brand new Lakland 55-94 for the song. We have 8 more songs before we are done with our first CD!!

I liked it until the vocalist came in.

Edit: ok, after listening to him a bit longer, I guess he's not so bad.

the band sounds good!

Ok, give it to me straight.

I see there have been 41 views and only 1 person commented so far (thanks). Anyway, if you all have any constructive criticism, I would like to hear it. Our guitar player bought all the mixing equipment and is trying to mix the songs to the best of his ability.

We have 8 songs to go, so if you have suggestions on the mix, I would like to hear it. Of coarse if you like the songs, I would like to hear that also.

Thanks for taking the time to listen.

Low quality MP3s are incredibly hard to use as a basis for mix judgment. Do you have a higher quality, and perhaps stereo, file?

I liked it until the vocals came in as well. Still, a pretty cool song. Has a nice weird air of mystery.

I will check out other MP3 files.

I will check on the MP3 quality files. This is the first time our guitarist is mixing songs using ProTools. I will ask him if there are other mixing formats we can use.

Thanks for the feedback so far. We obviously want to have the best quality sound we can and I value all of your comments.

Thanks again.

ProTools is fine. We use it everyday to make records. It isn't the mixing medium it's the chosen output. If you are printing full resolution .WAV or .AIF files then you just need to make a higher quality MP3 (192kbps or higher please). Just do NOT have that higher res. file auto load on your website. Not everyone has high speed internet still.

A little Rush like (which is good) but then it got a little repetitive with the same riff. I was really waiting for a killer guitar solo but it fell short (maybe he doesn't have the chops or could do better)

Sounds cool, and i wasn't expecting to like it so take it for what you may.

one concern is that there is lots of reverb on the vocals which could be on purpose, but is typically an amateur habit.

Cool tune. Nice work on the bass. Too much reverb on the vocals...and it does sound a bit bit like Rush. I mean that in a good way.

Our guitar player could play a longer solo. He actually changed the solo the day I was set to record the bass part and I had to make some quick adjustments.

The song is "Consult With Humans" and I told the the guitar player today that we should have a keyboard or an effect like a flying saucer landing in the begining of the song since we can hear it take off at the end of the song.

I also agree on the reverb on the vocalist. I will see if I can get him to adjust it a bit.

Thanks for all the compliments and suggestions so far. We hope to have our next song (my favorite), Miracle Mile by the end of next week.

Thanks again everyone.

The guitar player is in agreement with the vocals having too much reverb. He will be correcting it later this week.

Thanks again for the great comments.

Our new MySpace website.

Well,

I just wanted to send you all an update on our band's progress on our songs. We recently got a MySpace website and have posted 4 of our completed songs. For those that listen, we would appreciate your feedback.

Also, can you guess which Rush song inspired a part of our song, "Miracle Mile"?

We hope to have the remaining 5 songs done shortly.

The link is http://www.myspace.com/theband180

I really like your stuff.

It is a little hard to hear the singer on your myspace page. I'd suggest bumping the singer up in the mix.

Definitely post when it goes to distribution. I'd buy it off iTunes.

I dont either from any page

On the Myspace page the singer's voice sounds muffled. The drums seems bit too high in the mix of Numb. I think you guys have some good songs & are good musicians , but the recordings are mixed horribly. It really hinders the songs in my opinion. It almost sounds like everyone is mixed at the same volume. The vocals seem too dry, need a touch of echo or reverb. Everything seems too compressed?

If it were remixed it could sound great in my opinion.

I liked Miricle Mile.

Thanks for the honest constructive comments, Barkless Dog. We are all learning that mixing songs is a lot harder then we originally thought. The guitarist is mixing the songs using ProTools and then posting them onto the intraband website. Then the singer, drummer and I listen to them separately. I listen to the songs on my computer speakers.

When I first posted, the singer had a lot of reverb and then we brought it down a lot. We then began to bring the singer in the mix more and perhaps we brought him in too much. The bass was re-mixed for a tad more punch and the drummer wanted to be louder (what drummer doesn't)?

Anyway, we will take everyone's comments under advisement because we want to have the our songs sound great.

Thanks for taking the time to listen and give great input.
