Nothing new here, just posting to point out yet again what a freaking genius Bernard Edwards was. The man had the funk, no doubt about it. This playing is so tight it ain't even funny. Chic - Everybody Dance - YouTube
And just listen to that hi-hat. Oh my God.

Never was a fan of disco, but I recently got into Edwards' playing because of Guy Pratt's autobiography (the bass player for Pink Floyd). Good stuff, and I'm glad to be turned onto it! Incidentally, Pratt mentions Edwards several times in the book, and the book itself is quite entertaining. Bass players are interesting cats indeed! |

When I discovered the C'est Chic and Risqué albums my life was changed and my bass playing was all the better for it. Honestly, I love Nile's playing as much as I love Bernard's (and I love the fact that Bernard so much influenced the way Nile played guitar). GREAT band and production team. |

I really dig this longer version of it. Sheila & B Devotion - Spacer (extended mix) - YouTube

Lord knows it just drives me crazy why all the cats I know can't play a simple 4 on the floor drum groove for 6 minutes! I've played with 3 drummers in my lifetime who I consider excellent! The rest just baffle me! |

| | | | old thread I know but as I was figuring out Edwards bassline on 'Everybody Dance' I recognized how much of his personal style was in his playing. Check out his clothes and his manner, he was a sharp dude. The only other player I've heard do that is Bootsy. You can hear Bootsy's sense of humor in his lines. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
