| | | | indeed
actually it uses the main melody but its actualy a really good song and it fits in and it has the whole bass part.

I don't care if they use it, as long as they pay and Jaco's family gets the publishing. Michael Henderson said it best: "I don't mind sampling. It proves that we were right all along."

It's only ruined for you if you let it be ruined for you. |

Hey, if the original artist (or estate) is cool with it and is getting paid for it (which in this case,it sounds like is true for both counts), then who am I to say what they can or can't do with their music. If the Pastorius family is making $ off of it, then more power to em.
My gripe above is about taking a sample of a song I like and turning it into a song I don't like. Purely subjective, and yes, I don't have to listen to it. After the 1st time hearing it I usually don't. To me, the original can't help but lose a bit of luster when it's been reworked as the backbone of a tune that I don't dig.
Not looking for an argument fellas. Just my opinion. I tend to be a curmudgeon sometimes. |

Just because people go back and find the original songs which are always at least 5 times better. for example i got my friend who listens to Wu tang Clan into isaac hayes because he played me a song that sampled Walk On By and i recognised it.
So if someone listens to this song and thinks "man that is a nice sound i wonder what it is?" they will get in jaco which will lead to weather report which will lead to a world of GOOD.
I just Reckon these rappers should reference their samples so people can actually do this.
PS sorry for the rant i hope it makes sense |
