Are there any songs that you think were just written to show off a certain musician's chops? Maybe not even bass, but any instrument in general?
I think a lot of Jaco's recordings were just this. I love Jaco's music, but sometimes it seemed like he was just trying to show off.
Buddy Rich's solos don't really make much sense to me, honestly. I just feel like he's trying to show off how fast he can drum. Again, love his music, just think he's a bit of a show-off.
