Christmas Songs With Great Bass Lines

Sign in to disble this ad
I just heard "Christmas Wrapping" from The Waitresses for the first time this year. I had forgot what a great bass groove that songs has. For those of you not familiar with it:

Anybody else have a Christmas tune with a great bass line?

That's the one that immediately popped into my head. Tracy Wormworth played a great bass line in that one!

I just heard this song last night and had to find out who played on it. Great, tastey, groove.

Avalon's version of Winter Wonderland has a pretty good bass line. It even has a small solo in the middle of the song.

Could not find a full version. HERE is a sample of it.

It's very traditional, but "Carol Of The Bells" bass line is pretty cool if you do it right.

The whole Jackson 5 Christmas album is good...others include "Up On The Rooftop" & "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town".

Solo URB (doubletracked)-
Christian McBride- "Doubledecker (Deck The Halls)"
...very cool. It was on a Verve Christmas Jazz disc.

Some Fusion-esque Christmas-
"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"- Chick Corea Elektric Band (John Patitucci)
...1st GRP Xmas Collection from the late '80s.

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"- Take 6 w/ The Yellowjackets (Jimmy Haslip)
...He Is Christmas- Take 6

There also the Flecktones' Christmas album, Jingle All The Way, from last year.
If you want an uptempo version of "Sleigh Ride"...look no further.

I'll be home for christmas has alot of sweet jazz chords in it, I dont think throwing down a good bass line in there wouldnt take to much imagination.

the definition of Christmas groove:

I didn't really like Christmas music until I heard this song. I played this with my high school jazz ensemble for our Christmas concert maybe 2 years ago.
