Chuck Rainey on Donny Hathaway's "I believe in music"

Killing classic Chuck Rainey track...anyone know if there are two seperate bass parts on this one? It would seem unlikely, but it kind of sounds that way (especially on the verses with the pedal tonic and the chords up high...).

Thanks!

Doesn't sound unlikely to me. That's more common than you'd think.

I'll have to check this tune out.

Anyway, are the pedal tones using an open string(s)? Rainey was a master at that...Jaco's "Liberty City" is another example of using open strings with high register doublestops (illusion of 2 bass parts).

The song is in Bb and he pedals the I and the V which makes open strings kind of unlikely. I doubt he tuned up...

Sounds double tracked to me.

Have you considered e-mailing Rainey?
In the past here, there was a discussion on Cheryl Lynn's "Got To Be Real"...I recalled that Rainey played the bass, others here didn't think so. I e-mailed him & he responded with a blow-by-blow of the session. Pretty cool.

I got it off his website...this was probably 8 years ago.
I just looked & I don't see a "Contact Chuck" link any more.
