Cidal - Brutal Death Metal first pro recording

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys a while ago I posted a video of a crappy computer mic recording of my band. This sunday we went to a really good home studio around here, the guys do live sound at The Hershey Center and the Giant Center around here. We got the mastered track today and just put it on our myspace, I'd like any feedback about it.

www.myspace.com/cidalpa

I had to cut through 2 guitars but I'm really happy with it

not a huge fan of this style. definitely not of lyrics like that either (just my opinion though)
I'm more into melodic death metal.

Anyway, i have to say, great tone. Really cut through nicely. would you mind telling us a bit about your gear, EQing, technique, etc?

your band logo looks like its gonna eat me.

IMO, your screamer isn't deep enough for death metal. His croaking sounds like it belongs in a screamo/nu metal band.

nice vibe though, I liked how it fit together!

Sounds pretty good. Everybody needs to tighten up a little more so that it sounds like a big wall of sound rather than 2 guitars and a bass competing for space. How do the death metal drummers play those blast beats? I've always wondered that.

Haha actually, its a funny story about the vocals. I was driving with our drummer and guitarist in the car and we agreed that he should do lower gutteral vocals. Then during practice he was like hey guys, check this out, then let out this brutal chris barnes gutteral scream. Im playing on a warwick vampyre rockbass 5 string, dr hi beams uptuned to c# through a Hartke HA4000 head. We payed $75 for this entire recording, and are planning to do 3 more songs there for a demo.

Me and the drummer are both 16, and been playing our instruments for almost half our life. He's Norwegian and speaks it to his parents and listens to a lot of black metal. So after 7 years of drumming mostly to black metal, those blasts come naturally. It helped me improve on my speed, because we often only did bass and drum black metal sessions in his small room haha.

We recorded this on the 1st, he just got decent enough at gutterals 3 practices ago to start implementing them in our songs.

pretty decent. Your drummer is phenomenal for being 16.

Sounds great, the song has a similar feel to DiSalvo-era Cryptopsy.

Can't say that I like it, or anything really like that out of personal preference, but for 16 you guys are killing it. The bass cuts through nicely and for $75 the recording is pretty good. Keep up the good work

I think the music is pretty sweet but that singer seriously has to go. I dig it instrumentally but he definitely needs to growl instead of doing trivium vocals.
