Coheed & Cambria Question

Sign in to disble this ad
A few months ago I purchased "Good Apollo . . . " by Coheed & Cambria. It was the first non-jazz-ish CD I had bought in some time on the recommendation of a friend. Bottom line. I love it. I hadn't listened to anything but jazz in years, and this really surprised me. The production is a little clean, but still good.

Now my question. Those of you who are into C&C, do you think that this is their best album. What album should I get next?

Check out "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth", there are some good tracks on there.

Personally i think all of them kick arse. You would be doing yourself a favor to get their first two.

The second stage turbine blade
In keeping secrets of silent earth

Keep in mind though, their first album might sound a little rough if your only reference is their latest album. Iv been listening to them from the begining and its only gotten better. But i still love their older stuff.

well as the self proclaimed co&ca expert and hugest fan ever here on tb, (lol, my favorite band ever, ever, ever...) nothing can compare to their first cd, second stage turbine blade. i know i'll sound like a loser saying this, but when i got that album in 2001(when it came out), it changed my life. their next 2 albums didnt really sound sound like sstb, so i was a little dissapointed, buts bands mature and change, so, you know. you really need to give sstb a listen. it is the album myself, and true coheed fans will always remember them by. michael todd(bass) and josh eppard(drums) left the band not to long ago, so im not sure what they will do now. claudio(vox, guitar) said he might get dillinger escape plan's drummer to play for them now, but im not sure.

I like Second Stage Turbine Blade, myself. More straightforward on that CD.

I have all three albums and Good Apollo is my least favorite of the three. You should definitely check out the other two.

In some ways IV is the best. It seems to me that their production values just keep flying ever higher, but they're also progressing in a very strange direction. I like it, but I also like the first two albums. 3 is probably my favorite by a small margin. Then IV, then SSTB. It's a great medium between SSTB and IV. The first was pretty soft, and the third is creeping ever closer to Claudio's bizarre vision of pop music (give "My Brother's Blood Machine" a listen to see what I'm talking about -- I don't think Coheed will creep so far in that direction, but it illustrates his style well). Each one is practically a little genre of its own. Don't expect to hear anything too much like the third in the other two (or vice versa) except for Claudio's voice and Josh Eppard's drumming.

One of my favorite things about the band is that they keep moving. With each new album it's, "This isn't what I expected." Each one is phenomenal though, and each is my favorite while I'm listening to it. I have a hunch that the next album will be like nothing ever before and I'm pretty excited about it. If each album is midway between the one before and the one after, IV is a waypoint between here and something amazing. It's a shame that Josh Eppard is no longer involved though.

N.B. "3" refers to In Keeping Secrets, IV to Good Apollo, and so on.

No need to act like the rest of us aren't true fans. You love whichever album you want, but I'm more attached to 3.

definitely check out In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3

the title track has a bass line that i really dig

it's Mic's subtle fills that fuel the songs, in my opinion

Get all of their CDs and listen to them from the beginning. It's really cool to hear how they've progressed. I think Good Apollo... is a great album, much more polished-sounding than anything they've done before. But, I'll always be partial to In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth. It reminds me of early Rush.

A lot of great replies here. It's interesting that there isn't an overwhelming favorite. I guess it's like when you ask people what their favorite Rush CD is.

You all say you listened from the beginning, eh?

Any of you have the Shabutie EP? That used to be their name before they became C&C. That said, I LOVE Coheed and Cambria. Great stuff. Good Apollo is definitely a good album, but I will agree here that you should check out their other stuff as well, because it's good stuff!

My vote is for "In Keeping Secrets...." but not by much over "Apollo". Great combo of hooks and prog elements.

The first album is good but doesn't have the production or songwriting of the other two. it feels like the first album of a band just coming into their own.

In general I love the level of detail and clarity in their production. For this type of music its a must. Bass playing and musicianship is great all around.

oh yes, i was there, in my room, listening to shabutie, quitely, so my mom wouldn't hear. when i was younger, my parents would only let me listen to christian music, so shabutie and some other bands were listened to quietly on my radio/cd player and on my walkman as i fell asleep. i've been listening to these guys for a long time now. cassiopia is one of my favorite songs ever.

That's awesome, dude. These guys are on eof the great band of our time, IMO. (One of my other favorites is Smashing Pumpkins!)

I don't remember the specifics, but I think one member left in the summer, and the second left in the fall.

I figured I'd post just because you don't see C&C brought up here very much. I'm a fan of all three albums so far, and can't really say which is my favorite (I'd probably have to say In Keeping Secrets, but it's tough).

Another interesting sidenote, after their drummer left, Chris Pennie of The Dillinger Escape Plan was reportedly jamming with Claudio, the other guitarist (I feel sorta bad I don't know his name), and a bass player friend of theirs. The thought of that monster playing drums for C&C is quite provoking, although I don't doubt for a second he wouldn't play to their style well. However, with the recent announcements of Dillinger's new album coming out September 2007, we can assume he's not a permanent fix. man i wish it was september hehe.

My understanding is that they weren't really on board with the direction Claudio (and presumably Travis) wants to go. I'm not really surprised at that, considering the way the music has changed, and I'm not really upset about it, since I like the direction it's headed.
