At 1st listen im thinking "woah, thats kinda heavy sounding". I must admit tho that I like Coldplay. Even if I am a metal head....
I also love the bass tone..... |

I was a bit disappointed by X & Y, so hopefully the next album will be a return to the form of Rush of Blood to the Head (which IMO is one of the finest albums of this century so far).
The thing with Coldplay is that the bass playing isn't particularly flash or innovative, but then for that matter neither is the guitar, drums, vocals or anything else. To me, they're a great example of playing for the song, and doing exactly what is required to make it all work. |

I actually liked X&Y quite a bit and I think it will gain appreciation with age.
Looking forward to the new one.

I kid. I can't get too behind Coldplay, but I hate that people are so quick to bash them. I mean, the complaint that I've been hearing is that pop bands aren't producing well written songs anymore: Ta Da! I mean, gimmie a break (people who bash Coldplay) in spite of this being pop, they write well structured songs, and there are some solid solid musicians in the band.
I'm not going to buy an album, but if my girlfriend had it in the car, I wouldn't be appalled by her playing it. But, Daniel, I wouldn't talk about "how kinda heavy sounding the new Coldplay album is" at a Sunn O))) show or anything.
I don't wanna sound like a queer or nothin', but I think Coldplay is a sweet band!

pretty much everything I like listening to! I think Coldplay have good and bad moments on all of their albums, so I'm not gonna say whether its better or worse than any of their other stuff, but its definitely different (which is somewhat refreshing)... it is, however, definitely still coldplay good show all round!

| Haha! Would there even be a coldplay discussion (or any real discussions) at a Sunn O))) show? Either way, Vive La Vida sounds a little heavier than their previous work ( ), which I listened to yesturday. Some interesting, well written stuff, and the transistions between tracks are spot on. I honestly do not know what track its on right now unless I look at the CD player right now. Which im not gonna do. But it does illustrate my point: The album has flow. Quote:

Back when A Rush of Blood to the Head came out I thought it was the greatest thing ever. I still really respect some of the song writing on the album. However, X&Y to me was this huge disappointment and proof that Coldplay was going to stick to playing it safe and making the same boring stuff. Everything on that album to me seemed uninspired and cut and dry, the same old same old. I wanted to see the band evolve a bit more. I really liked their smooth as hell backbeat grooves from the first album, and the raw emotion from the second one, but from there I feel like the band just dropped off. they'd really have to put something quality out with this new one to bring me back - from the single I'm not that impressed...

The only thing that really baffles me is why the released Violet Hill as the single. Viva La Vida (the song) is so amazing i can't understand why they wouldn't be using that for radio play.
