I'm going to be applying for colleges soon, and I have to accumulate a bunch of stuff to include in the applications. I've been playing bass for five years, and my college counselor thinks that it would be beneficial for me to record something to send to colleges.
I play funk and jazz, and I'm in a ska/funk band and a small school jazz band. If any of you have gone through this process, do you recommend sending colleges a recording? Do you recommend I send a recording of me in a band situation or by myself? Should I try playing a jazz piece or a funk/rock piece, or should I come up with a simple composition? I can play drums moderately well and some basic chords on guitar, so should I include those in the recording while keeping the emphasis on my bass playing?
Sorry for all the questions, but I realize that this is a pretty important part of my young life, and while this specific decision shouldn't make too much of a difference, it would be nice to sway the colleges closer to accepting me.
(if it helps, I'm planning on majoring in something to do with Chinese, and I'm looking at smallish liberal arts colleges)

Thanks a bunch
