complex harmonies in hard rock?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm just looking for examples of somewhat more complicated harmonies (both from jazz and classical music) in hard rock music. Doesn't have to be very complicated, but I mean like secondary dominants, modulations to something besides the relative minor, circle of fifths movement etc.
Anybody have some examples of this

Check out Led Zeppelin, the Physical Graffiti album. It's a double album, with only one or two throw-away tunes. Almost every song on it is a classic.

They get into some very nice chord progessions and harmonies, and dissonances (sp?) too. For my money it's one of the best rock records ever, and probably most Zep fanatics would say it's their best.

I'm learning the bass line for "In The Light" now.

"Leave it" by YES just simply blows my mind and I am a vocalist. I still listen to that track every day for inspiration. Check it out, it's incredible.

I think we need a better idea of what you think hard rock is. Also, do you mean harmonies, or harmonic progressions? Seems like the latter, but just for clarification.

I dig Blind Guardian, which is like Queen meets Iron Maiden. Interesting harmonic progressions, but it is metal.
