Concert DVD recommendations?

Sign in to disble this ad
I was just in Borders Books killing my lunch hour and browsing in the video section. There's an increasing number of DVDs of concerts out there.

I already have a few good ones: The excellent Peter Gabriel Secret World tour, the slightly less excellent but still good Peter Gabriel Growing Up tour, the superb Bela Fleck Live at the Quick, and a very rough Dixie Dregs disc.

Anybody have any recommendations for good concert DVDs? I'm NOT looking for instructional DVDs.

TIA....

Primus - Hallucino-Genics
Opeth - Lamentations
Dream Theater - Metropolis 2000: Scenes From New York
Rush - Rush in Rio

Check out Herbie Hancock "Future 2 Future Live". Matt Garrison is on bass and tears it up!!! Lucky for me, my local library had it so I checked it out there.

Also, check out (dont shoot me) "Yanni - Live at the Acropolis".. Ric Fierabracci is another monster.

It's G3 Live In Denver. I have it, great DVD, but the one with Vai, Sat, Johnson is better IMO.

Another great show, they are freakin awesome live.

And I'll second this one. Another great show. Wish Les was more into the crowd, but was still good.

I'll also throw Lamb Of God - Killadelphia into the pile here, a great DVD. Also if you need some laughter in your life, Tenacious D - The Complete Masterworks is a masterpiece.

Yet another DVD thread!

Don't know about youse guys-
I'm picking up the Dick Cavett Rock Icons set that's being released today.
Not a "concert DVD", nevertheless I'm eager to see some of the bands/performers that were on the cusp in Rock/Funk's early daze.

If anyone is looking for a "concert DVD" that knock yer socks off-
www.torsos.com
Two concerts are included, one from '96 in NYC, the other from Paris '04...exact same personnel on both.

I see I need to pick up the Tull & Prince 2000 DVDs.

Metallica - Live S**t (Binge & Purge)

The Seattle concert is amazing, very expensive though, as the box set comes with three CDs, two DVDs, and some extras.

I've been collecting live concert DVDs for a few years now and have amassed quite a collection. Your profile does not really give a clue as to your musical tastes so I'll just post of a list of a variety of DVDs where the bassplayer makes a significant contribution to the groove, or solos well.

Marcus Miller
Funky Meters Live (George Porter Jr)
Prince Live at the Aladdin Las Vegas (Rhonda Smith)
Lee Ritnour - Overtime (Anthony Jackson)
Most Earth Wind & Fire DVDs (Verdine White)
Doobie Brothers Rockin' Down the Highway (Skylark)
Herbie Hancock Future2Future
Average White Band
Robben Ford & the Blue Line
