I have been finding myself listening to this song because of it's sheer cool factor...and I want to lay out a plan before I tackle this. I think I have a good ear (of course there are many with better ears) but I really feel as if I haven't put enough into transcribing songs. The hardest bassline that I've transcribed is "right on" by Marvin Gaye.

Now I don't give a damn about how long this is going to take me, because if possible, I want to do music FULL time. I feel it is best to have a process planned out for this project; so for now I am going to list everything that I plan on doing off the top of my head, and basically what I asking of you guys is to tell me everything that you would do, because I want to be able to approach this in every way possible.
Conditions of my plan:
-The only thing that I'm going to do to make this easier is slow down sections with transcribe!
-No looking at realbooks, no looking for transcriptions of trane.
-Time is not a factor of concern.
Steps:
First, I am going to transcribe the bass line. I will try to get at least ten measures every day, and I will be notating it. I have almost no experience in walking basslines, so this will definitely help. I will not notate the bass solo.
Next, I will use my RC-50 to Loop the bass line, while I try to figure out the chords on piano. I have only played piano for a combined time of less than 30 hours, so this will be a bit of a challenge. Only after I feel that I have figured out the chords will I look in a realbook to confirm.

After this I will begin to transcribe tranes part.
After I accomplish each step, I will update this thread for pointers.
Also, I will learn to sing each part before movin on to the next.
