Constructive Criticism, Please

Sign in to disble this ad
I know you've heard it all before, but I'd love some constructive criticism on my latest two tracks.

http://www.soundclick.com/rollo47

The tracks in question are "Spite" and "With You"

I don't seem to get much criticism at all, let alone constructive criticism in real life, so I must turn to the internet.

Thanks in advance.

Spite seem very cluttered to me. the slap tone could be better. and the phrasing could be tighter with some cleaner fingering.

With You, is a very nice use of harmonics. again your overall tone, and your phrasing needs some work.

My major criticism of the music is that has been done before. Nothing cutting edge or interesting enough to make the average listener listen to it. Successful solo musicians find their niche, the non-successful ones are the clones who do not. Bass solo bass music is pretty esoteric.

Keep in mind, I've yet to hear a peice of truly bass oriented solo music that has knocked me flat. So I am definitely not your audience. Bass just isn't very appealing to me as a solo voice.

A few of the people on TB who's solo bass music I do enjoy are Blisshead's, Matt Till's, and Wrong Robot's, mainly because bass isn't the only instrument featured.

I like the tone in "Spite", but the timing is all over the place. Remember, the key to life is moderation.. That applies to plucking too..

Once you got into the more melodic stuff, it was okay.

With you is okay.. the beginning is a little iffy. It reminds me of that song in that movie Matilda.... Shush, I only saw it once. Your tone has a little much trebble. The timing gets iffy in spots.. also.. you could turn down just a smidge.
