Do you guys think they are good ideas for bands? Evergreen Terrace has done one, and I think their renditions of songs are awesome. I think the same of the band "Exhumed" which did a cover album written in "their style" and it was pretty boss. Lame or good?

I think they're only good if they take music that they enjoy that is not their style. They can either perform it like the original did or in their own style. Either way is good for me.

Of course cover albums are good. I don't even want to think what this world would be like without Me First And The Gimmie Gimmies.

I like listening songs i like, played by other artists. Especially tribute albums.
My fave are "butchering the beatles: a headbashing tribute". I'm not a beatles fan at all, but i must admit these songs are killer with a heavy rock treatment. Especially "back in the ussr" with Lemmy singing

About cover album, i've two cd i couldn't get away from: "Animals", my pink floyd favorite album, covered live by Les claypool and his frogs. And another spécial cd, made by a french guitarist named N'Guyen Lê, electric jazz guitarist; which made a Hendrix cover cd.
But at this point, it's hard to label it "cover", cause his versions of songs are really some amesome jazz/world/fusion tunes by itself.
This cd is called "Purple: celebrating Hendrix"
I highly invit you to have a listen. (you can catch it by amazon)

Ben Lee playing Against Me!'s New Wave is a beautiful reworking of an already pretty kick ass album. You can dl it free from his website.

I'm not into rock covers but when it comes to old Motown and Soul music, I love them especially when done well.
