Machine Head have done some really good covers of other metal songs as bonus tracks on various albums and I prefer most of them to the originals.

Hallowed be thy name http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJrz1yofoKg
Original by Iron Maiden

Battery http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOo_U32qjKE
Original By Metallica

Die Young http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2DlueFfxuU
Original by Black Sabbath

Cant believe no one has said Thin Lizzy, Whiskey in the Jar

And as already mentioned Santana's Black Magic Woman and Hendrix's Watchtower.

Toots and The Maytals cover of Country Roads. Somewhat more hip than John Denver.

Leningrad Cowboys cover of Stairway to Heaven from their 2003 concert in Helsinki. Who knew it needed balaikas, accordions, a mixed choir, and dozens of dancers?

Tuxedomoon's In a Manner of Speaking covered by Nouvelle Vague, bossa nova style. Just sublime...

Nouvelle Vague also covered Dead Kennedy's "Too Drunk to ****" but I don't think I can link it on TB.

Nouvelle Vague ("new wave" in French) is a project to cover New Wave songs in Bossa Nova ("new wave" in Portugese) style, with French pop singers who have never heard the originals.

Heart of Glass
A Forest = give me the chills, it's so good.

I'll take useless musical trivia for $200, Alex.

Elton John's take on Honky Tonk Women from his 11-17-70 live release, to me, is much better than the Stones.

Bill Frisell's cover of Madonna's "Live To Tell" is positively exquisite. Stunningly evocative and emotionally wrenching. Go figger.

Just so you know. Cyndi Lauper's version of Girls Just Want To Have Fun is a cover song itself. It was originally written and recorded in 1979 by Robert Hazard.

April wine's versions of You could have been a lady and bad side of the moon Aerosmith's version of Walkin the dog The Who's version of Roadrunner and the CSNY version of Down by the River I think is way better than the crazy horse version. With greg reeves and dallas taylor it has a much better groove.
