Hey everybody, I have some stuff up on youtube from my senior portfolio recital here at Berklee. Ones a modern eights mixed mixer groovey thing, the other is a contemporary passacaglia. Thanks for listening!

I just got done listening to Chrysalis, and am now enjoying Passacaglia. I actually got notification from YouTube before I saw this thread, and decided I should come and see if you'd posted about it here yet lol. Very good stuff.

This is bad ass! Sounds like a big Kenny Wheeler influence.

Yeah, you can't really escape it. ECM is the big thing in the jazz comp program at Berklee. Not that thats a bad thing.

That was really nice, was there a set time limit on each piece as it kinda felt like it wanted to expand and develop more then you allowed it.

good stuff! I expect to hear some good tunes from you in the future, hopefully played by some jazz icons! Keep it up.

it did sound like a few of the saxes were a weee bit outta tune though.

just listened to Passacaglia. I do love the Hindu scale [F mixo b6], it just sounds so groovy and mysterious.

Hindu scale, haha. Out of the thousands upon thousands of ragas and their variations, somebody decided to call mixolydian b6 the "hindu" scale. It is a good scale to work with for counterpoint, though. It's one of the few useable heptatonic scales which is intervallically symmetrical (W W H W H W W). Thanks for listening!

Well, it sounds cool, doesn't it? Its also not the "beat you over the head" kind of 11/8 thats so prevalent in prog rock or the like, it has a vaguely Afro-Cuban sound to it. And that's exactly why I don't write straight ahead (nobody does).
