A lot of it seems to be comming from his picking technique. I think a lot of mids and a little distortion will get you on your way.

+1 what MuzikMan said.

It also sounds like the neck pickup might have been soloed (ala Steve Harris P-bass) with tone full open. You could also check into a Sansamp BDDI to help get the sound, or if you're low on cash, check out the Behringer BDI21 equivilant of that.

good call...

i would say

use a pick
turn up your mids (turn up your high mids too if you can)
turn up the treble
buy a set of new strings that are medium or light guage
(i forget if its stainless steel or nickel that are brighter)
turn your tone knob all the way open
overdrive the signal just a little

Nice sound from that Modulus!
I ,too, think some distortion, boosted treble and mids, and roundwounds (preferrably stainless steels) and an aggressive picking technique will get you there.

theres another clip him playing holywars with bass and drums only. Cant believe Mustaine is suing the guy for such a stupid reason-.-
Anyway, ill also check the Behringer BDI21, doesnt seem to b to expensive and ive seen good reviews about it.

FWIW, I just took hand to a Behringer ADI21, and I'll have to post soundclips, but it actually produces some very metallic sounds with my fretless jazz and a pick (or even fingerstyle). I haven't A&B'd it to the BDI version, but though there's no full out Billy Sheehan overdrive, it seems like I can push the mids and get some slight overdrive, very much in the style of Ellefson and others. Again, I'll have to post some sound clips to verify.

Sounds awful to me! I guess that shows what my taste in tone is like. He has some great skills and I am sure that is a big part of it.

I guess if you put a Sansamp on the worst settings...
