Can you leave the Dr. Bass drama for the Dr. Bass thread? Are you that obsessed over it?

i have no critique personally its pretty good. im personally not a fan of the ray but that has zero to do with you, it always just seems more modern but you do seem to have the "tone" eric wilsons ray was catching.

now if it was me playing this lick i would be playing a little more up on the neck and incorperating more of the pads of my plucking finger..takes some of the bite out of the active sound. when i had my SR5 i was right up on that neck for a dubby tone.but thats just me and our styles are what make us individual.

all in all i say youre killin it and if i had one thing to say id just say keep it loose and enjoy it!

It seem like you are an adept of the one finger per hand technique!
You only use your index on the plucking hand, which is ok if you do it as a choice towards sound but you should do it because you chose to, not because you dont think about it.

Your fretting hand technique is also centered around your index finger, you always take it as your main finger, making you jump a lot...
A good way of thinking is that your index is the main finger if your playing in a minor scale, your middle finger is your main finger if your playing in a major scale, this gives you easy acces to thirds and fiths without shifting your hand.

Also, tonewhise i would play reggae closer to the neck to get a fat sound.

Still, its pretty good, well done.

After relistening i think you could also play a bit more "late", it sounds like your pushing things a little to much.

My A string started unraveling on Thursday, so I had to replace the whole set with a fresh pair of Ernie Ball Regular Slinky's, so they're not dead, and very trebly right now. I had a set of dead rounds on before, it this cover would sound 100% better if I had them on when I recorded it.

I hear it just fine with powered speakers and a sub. Smooth, nice timing, nice tone. I like it.

Aside from being posted in the wrong area- yeah I know you get more traffic in "Basses" than in "Technique" but we have the sections for a reason. One being that this post will still be on page one of the Technique area for a couple days...

But nevermind that, on with the critique!

Too timid! Looks like you're almost waiting to make sure you're gonna play the right note. I played pretty much like that for probably my first year or so too. When you start playing more aggressively the feeling will show through. Ya gotta grab that be-yotch and put some meat into it and OWN it. Give it time, It'll come.

He's just saying what many are thinking, but at least he believes it exists. Many don't, for obvious reasons.

Anyway, you brought it on yourself.

I realize that it's a video of you bedroom playing, but I see more of your hands "going through the motions" versus really playing with any level of passion. As Porter said, "songs with less notes require more pocket and passion to make the performance believable."

imho

I don't know, most Bassists I see playing are just shuffling around awkwardly with a catatonic look on their faces.

And that isn't even the old, bald(ing), and severely overweight ones.
