Looks to be awesome. I saw a live clip of one of the new songs, and it's sick. Does anybody know if it will be the reunion tour lineup? (I'm guessing so)

*Crossing fingers for Sean Malone to return*

This rumor has been going around the metal circles for a while now, I'm glad it's confirmed. "Focus" is actually what's in my car stereo right this minute.

I love Malone, but I think Chris Kringel (spelling?) does a grea job with them. His playing on the Portal demos is great stuff. I think whoever records with them (maybe even Tony Choy) will be great.

The new song is great! It's not as groundbreaking as Focus, but I'm sure the guys have tricks up their sleeves. There's no point in recreating Focus, so I'm sure they'll do something very original on this album without alienating their trademark sound. But I have to say I do miss Sean Malone's bubbly fretless lines.

There's no news from Sean Malone's website or Chris Kringel's website as to who the bassist will be. I'm guessing that Kringel will be the bassist on this new album, simply because Malone always seems to be wrapped up in academic pursuits. Either one will be a fine choice on the new album; both bring two slightly different but equally respectable styles to the table. If not either of them, Tony Choy would be fine as mentioned, or Jeroen Paul Thessling (ex-Pestilence) would be wicked, albeit a pipe dream to see with Cynic.

The reason I got into Cynic was because I was into Gordian Knot - I think I found out about them on a progressive music website, bought the self-titled album in 99 (had to order it through the local music store) and then downloaded Emergent when it came out.

After due research, I found out that Sean also played for a progressive metal act, and had to check it out... I was so blown away by their sound, but it notched him up there even more in my list. While I'm sure anyone they bring in will have the chops and be a significant contribution to their music, I really want to hear something new from him.

My avatar actually has his picture in there among a bunch of my other bass heroes... He's on the bottom left, under Stu and to the left of Les.

What if Steve DiGiorgio took up bass duties for this album?

Just figured I bump this thread. In case you aren't aware, the album is titled "Traced in Air" and I think the release date in Nov 17 in Europe and the 25th in North America. Not 100%. I ordered my copy yesterday.
