Daft Punk Bass Tone

I am currently recording this song and am going to try and get my bass sound close to the original. Here is the video of the song.

I'm really not sure what is going on here. It sounds like it's very compressed, and is possibly being slapped and popped. I'm not even sure it's a real bass.

Sounds like a P-bass with some gain, flats, tone rolled all the way off, and a pop on the high notes, finger on the low notes.

Yeah I get that, I just feel like it has more smoothness and sustain than I can get with just my p bass, which led me to believe it is either uber compressed or electronic.

Hmmm interesting! I see what you're saying. I don't pretend to know much about synths or recording in general for that matter. I just know if i was trying to reproduce it on an amp I'd do all that, and bring the treble down and the bass up. No idea on the compression though.
