I don't know if anyone has heard much about this guy (probably not many around here) or if this video has come up before. He isn't the most super technical, and this doesn't show him being super groovy or anything, but the tone is just wonderful and the amount of expression is far and beyond what most death metal bassists do, even if it is progressive death. Don't be turned off by that death word either, no vocals on this track.

He is the grooviest type of bass player I've for a band of this type as well, so they have that going for them. Personally my favorite band, but that's just me.

P.S. The goodness starts around 1:00

I love Dan. He changed the way that I look at the role of bass guitar in a metal band (or most bands for that matter). His work on Alaska, Colors and The Great Misdirect are simply stunning. He is a SUPER nice guy too.

I think there are some other threads around here about him...

It's good to see some love for Dan around here. Far to many people have these misguided notions about metal bassists (and metal musicians in general for that matter) and Dan shatters those preconceptions. He's a big influence of mine and should be an influence on all bassists. Thanks for posting this video here.

Dan Briggs still knows how to groove, even in a metal context, and for that reason he's a bass player whom I highly respect.
