I just saw them on Jay Leno and I dug them alot! They reminded me a bit of old REM, but obviously with a more full sound since they are a much bigger band.
Their bassist also had a cool Lakland too.

Their new album The King is Dead has more of an REM influence than their previous stuff. In fact Peter Buck from REM played on some of the tracks. |

They're a good band. I've been following them for several records. The Hazards of Love is a fantastic rock-opera type record, with a huge variety of styles. And the girls on that record can really sing. I saw them perform the entire album at the Treasure Island Festival in Oct 2009, just before the Flaming Lips showered us in confetti. That was an epic lineup.

I haven't enjoyed any of their previous work nearly as much. |

"Down by the water" has been getting some radio play (at least on the stations I listen to) and I have to laugh every time I hear it, because Peter Buck almost sounds like he's plagiarizing himself! Granted, he sounds great, and Mike Mills has said that when it comes to rhythm guitar playing, Peter Buck has the best right hand in the business. But when I listen to his guitar part on that song I totally hear him on "The one I love" by R.E.M. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
