Deceptively hard songs

Sign in to disble this ad
Just finished going through Michael Jackson's Off the Wall album. After warming up with a bit of funky fun in 'Get on the floor' (pretty sure that Louis Johnson) I moved on to the 'lighter' Rock with you. Damn that was hard for me (Bob Babbit played it if I remember correct).

What songs have anyone else totally underestimated?

I totally underesimated "Last Dance" by Donna Summer.
For me, that was really tough.
Conversely, I thought "Carry On Wayward Son" by Kansas would be difficult and I breezed through that one.

I play that tune with my disco band. Love it. Once you get the hang of it it's not that bad, but remembering all those changes can be tough. That tune has a few key changes.

I'll ad to the list of tune that are tougher that I thought:

"Everybody Dance" - Chic

The bass solo portions are just silly. Bernard Edwards uses his fingers like a pick. I can't do that technique without turning my fingers to hamburger, so nailing it fingerstyle took some time.

"Shake Your Groove Thing" - Peaches & Herb

The bass line is really driving and on top of the beat. I'm pretty sure it is a keybord on the recording. Getting the feel and timing right on this tune took a lot of practice.

"Want you back" by the Jackson 5. Easy to play as a whole, but really nail all the moves was a bit tricky, but I'm glad I worked at it! Teen Town was tricky too, I thought!

I'm happy i'm not the only one having a hard time with this one. Damn, that intro is hard...
