desperate for wav to mp3 lessons

Sign in to disble this ad
My wife has written a song for a songwriting contest and i'm trying to help her submit it. I managed to get it recorded on cool edit pro but, i need to convert it to mp3 so i can upload the file to the contest. I've never converted wav to mp3 so i'm pretty lost. I downloaded LAME so i can convert the file but i don't even know where to begin so, if any of you guys can help me out i would greatly appreciate it.......
Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you use LAME in conjunction with other programs.

You may want to download Audacity, and put the LAME .dll file where Audacity tells you to install it (i think you just put the file in a folder)

Anyway, try this page. It looks like it has all the info you need for this.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windows

I hope that helps

Cool Edit Pro also allows you to save wav files in many formats, including mp3. Old versions required an extra plugin for that, but as far as I can recall right now, the newer versions have that feature by default. Just open your wav file and then go to File > Save as... and choose mp3 as file type. You can also choose the amount of compression for the file (192 kbps is the best compromise between file size and quality).

Hope this helps.

Ok, I just tried this myself (I have this already on a different computer, but just installed on my laptop)

All you have to do is download and install:

Audacity 1.2.5 Installer

and then install

LADSPA plugings 0.4.15 installer.

Once done, open the WAV file, go to the "File" pulldown, and then Export to MP3

That's it.

Alvaro is a great guy! IMO, he's one of the nicest guys you'll meet on TB.

Yea, Audacity bleh. Cool Edit FTW!

You can save songs as like 7 or 8 different types(at least in Pro 2 you can).
