Diana (Chic)

I picked the 1980 album that Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards produced for Diana Ross. Man, those brothers had an airtight groove! The bass is actually dialed a bit compared to some of their other work in favor of Nile Rogers and Tony Thompson on drums, but no one out grooves Bernard Edwards! Bernard Edwards, Marcus Miller, and Anthony Jackson have to be my three favorite bassists of all time.

Knuckleheads who think a Stingray can only sound like Flea, need to be forced to listen to Bernard Edwards!

Yep, the "Diana" album is yet another stellar example of Chic's brilliance! I've been going back to the "C'est Chic" and "We Are Family" albums lately and have been reminded, once again, about how wonderful a unit those guys were. It's funny, I'd always assumed it was Nile singing on "Happy Man" (I don't know how the liner notes eluded me for so long) and just noticed the other day that it was Bernard providing the vocals! Good times, indeed.

I think you have to go to one of Nile's solo records to hear him sing. Bernard also kills on bass on "Happy Man."

I just went to iTunes to remind myself about the album.
If you purchase the 'Deluxe' edition CD you get two versions of the album. The Russ Terrana re-mix that was released back in 1980 that we all remember ~ plus the original Chic mixes.
wikipedia indicates that Edwards and Rodgers weren't too happy with the released, Terrana remixed, version.
It's intersting to compare.
