I don't trust them anymore, i was in LOVE !!!! with them in the 80's (i bought everything that i could get my hands on) and my heart sank when the Black Album came out, i ended up like it after while but it just wasn't progressive, they were the metal innovators of the time and they ran out of fuel (no pun intended). Then Load came out and it was the last Metallica album i bought up until Death Magnetic (which i love).

But yeah the problem for me is i just don't trust them anymore, seeing them turn into metal divas has damaged me for life

I think Metallica's days as innovators are long gone, but if they can keep putting out inspired albums like Death Magnetic i'll be happy

I liked it. Problem is...it sounds horrible. Look up some of the GH3 mixes...they sound so much better.

Is it me or is the snare WAY too loud? I have a hard time listening to the album for some reason...

On Topic: I don't know man... I'm not nearly as excited as I one was...

I like the music but the mix is AWFUL. I bet a couple of those tracks rule live though. I think they should never let their bass players use a pick ever again.

meh. not really. even in the spectrum of kill 'em all to black, it was the worst.

its just not the same. they are too old, too burnt out, and their attitudes are completely different. metalheads dont shop at armani. its not about the look, they are just not in the state of mind to write aggressive music. they are feigning aggression and im not buying it.

DM was the best thing theyve done since the 90's.. but its still not all that great. i thought they should have hung it up and done something else a long time ago.

I liked it! Awful sound quality aside. And they are still one of the finest live bands in the world, in spite of Lars. As long as they can still cut it live, I'll continue to follow them.

Well then, next time I try to write heavy, aggressive music, I'll try living in a cave for a year first.

I`ve liked everything except Stanger (Stinker?). Even Load / ReLoad. I`ve admired their willingness to try different things - even if it goes against what the people expect. Isn`t that what a "metal" attitude is about ? But, yeah, DM was a good album; I think Trujillo was a shot in the arm for them. He made them step up and bring their A - game again. Is it a great album ? No. What they achieved early on will never be duplicated. I think it`s a little unfair for people to expect that. MOP, Justice, KEA, Black ...those were the right albums at the right time. Luck had a big part in those albums being what they were, just like most classic albums. Their days as innovators are gone, but just because they aren`t reinventing the wheel doesn`t mean they still aren`t a massively talented group of musicians. DM sorta put `em back on the same path that we wanted them on. I am indeed excited to see what they do next. But given their pattern of operation, don`t expect anything until at least late 2013. I just wish they would utilize Rob. I pulled out the 5.98 EP this past week, and was blown away. That is the only thing they`ve done with the bass properly in the mix, and it really hit home for me how much better they could sound in the studio. It also reminded me just how great Jason was. They threw that EP together after Cliff died to sort of showcase the coming future with "Newkid", and put him up front in the mix (by their standards, anyway). He really kicked ass on it, and they sounded sooo heavy on it! Then they promptly buried him for the next 15 years. I can`t understand their mentality with bassists, unless it`s just a ego thing of James` and Lars`.

Honestly I wanted DM to renew what I had for Metallica, but I just can't stand it.
Everything is still weak as hell, and Metallica have just lost that edge.

Megadeth has now taken the old Metallica spot in my collection.

Not even a little stoked to see what 'Tallica does next...

But... i also hold the unpopular view that: "I consider '...and Justice For All' to be their greatest album". I know... heresy for a bassist... but the emotion on that album is un****withable and it'll always be my fave.

Then... Black Album(s/t) came out and one of my favorite bands fell from my gracec forever thereafter...

Load and Reload are two of my all time favorite cd's.
Death Magnetic touched upon that era a little bit, liked it for that. The mix was awful, and I wish they would give Trujillo some more volume!! He IS the best musician out of the three. I don't count Lars as a musician.

EDIT: Yes, it left me hopeful. Unforgiven III had that blazing solo, and All Nightmare Long I can listen to in the gym and put up 3 plates (ok, 2, but full sets )

I think Death Magnetic is a far better album than St. Anger, musically and sonically, so that's something. I'm an optimist, lol, so I'll give it a listen.

Metallic has never done an all-around great record, by that I mean all killer songs AND killer production. I love the songwriting on MOP and AJFA, but I didn't like the mixing / mastering on either. I love the sound of the Black Album, but the songs? Not so much. Maybe the next one will be 'the' record.

The mix was dreadful ... nasty and crunchy. I really can't get over how a band with that much money puts out an album that sounds that bad!!!

Apparently the mastering engineer wanted his name taken off the cover because he didn't want to be associated with.

Tunes weren't bad.

Personally I loved the black album, wasn't big into the older stuff.

Saw them live in London and they were awful. To my ears it was two hours of an excellent bass player trying to control two over excited guitarists and getting no help from the ego behind the kit who couldn't keep time if you gave him a gold watch.

[Off topic] Saw Alice In Chains a little while afterwards and that did give me hope. Tight ... heavy (with one fewer guitar and much more bass) ... very very good tunes ... damn they can play [/Off topic]
