Digging the blues

Sign in to disble this ad
As a teen I always loved hard rock and metal. Within the last 10-15 years I've come to like the blues. The more I learn what goes into making music, the more I like it. Take today for instance, listening to the radio and heard Buddy Guy baby please don't leave. HOT DAMMM! What an awsome bass sound and groove in that song. So does anybody have other suggestions I should check out?

One of my personal favorites is Rosco Beck. He's played on loads of recordings, but check out his playing on Robben Ford's
CDs.

buddy guy is great, but you gotta be careful with him. He has made some killer records and some bad records. Check out the Stone Crazy album or the Sweet Tea record for the real Buddy, those are killer.

Muddy Waters 'Hard Again' is also UNREAL.

Also little walter, sonny boy williamson (rice Miller), howlin wolf, early paul butterfield with mike bloomfield on guitar(1965), junior wells (hoodoo man blues album) which has buddy on guitar, albert king, freddie king, early johnny winter (his first or the progressive blues experiment album (both have tommy shannon on bass who is the best walking blues player ever), red devils (unbelievable!, early fabulous thinderbirds with keith ferguson on bass who is also an incredible blues walker.

those will get you started. You do have to be a bit careful with most of the blues guys because they played through so many decades some of their albums may be a bit weatered down and you may have to study a bit to find the classic albums IMO.

Best Elect6ric Blues bassist - Tommy Shannon. He played with Johnny Winter, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Willie Dixon for Upright bass in blues.

great guys and thanks, I was all but ready to give up learning to play until I found TB and study bass (which I found by TBers). You guys have reinvigorated me, many thanks.
