Disappointed with Type O negative - Dead Again

Sign in to disble this ad
Just got the new type o neg album, i am HUGE fan of their past stuff but hate to say that this new album is just not as good as i had hoped I mean generally it is 'ok' but i don't think it is even comparable to older material (October rust in particular) What does everyone else think ?

Is Mr. Steele still at it? WOW... Gotta give him credit for being persistant at least if so.

Havn't listened to that type of music since the days of Carnivore; anyone remember them?

type o rules...i didn't know pete had a heart condition...this new album was released under a new label with type o having a lot more creative control than on previous albums (but they never failed to disappoint me with anything they've ever put out)...carnivore has been resurrected, btw...where ya been, dawg?

The last I heard of Carnivore was in the mid/late 80's. I no longer follow that scene or listen to that style of music.

I find the album really 'carnivorey' Steele is still sporting the reverb/chrous/distortion effect that he so widely used back in their good days, i dunno if it is getting old exactly, but it'd be cool if he tried using different stuff the guy is a good player

Thats cool, that's HIS sound; I think he should stick with it.

From what I heard, way back when, is that alot of the material on the first Type O album was meant to be released as Carnivore material.

I really dig the new one, even if the lyrics are overtly christian.

I must agree that the lyrics do some what drag the album down, I must admit the instrumentation is still as good as ever The music has changed since Steele has found faith again in Catholicism...

I dig it. Not sure why, never been a huge fan exactly, but I sort of like most all Type O Negative's stuff.

My take on Type o has changed over the years.
I stared fallowing them when The 1st CD came out,
My Fav will always the "LIVE" CD
after that to me the CDs just seem to have
Great PARTS of songs, but few GREAT songs as a whole.
Pete has gone though alot btwn CDs
(mother dying-rehab-finding god again) at it shows in this CD.
Its the "brightest" Type O CD ever. not as Dark as the others.
I havent gotten to the lyrics yet. still diggin into the music.
2 things that i have always like about Steele is:

1-That bass tone is just Perfect for his writing, and the stuff they play
if any one knows just what Pedals he is using PLEASE POST THEM-
His sound has always reminded me of old SEGA
master system/Genesis Video game music.

and
2-Petes got a sick Groove to him.
Very Led Zepp/Beatles.
Even the SSSSLLLLLOOOOWWWW parts
have a natsy "BOOM CRACK" that has always gotten to me.

I read in an old interview somewhere that Peter uses a Boss distortion pedal, I think it's the orange metal zone or something similar, and a Boss chorus. I've tried this setup and it can sound very similar.
However, he also uses Fernandes sustainer pickups which give him that howling feedback. They don't make that pickup anymore so when he gets a new bass he has to swap the pickup.

i've probably linked this only 25 or so times on this board...at least twice (eventually) in each thread that mentions either pete or type o...it's old info, but the only aspect that's really changed is his live rig (he's still using his custom shop washburn m10 basses live)...he's recorded pretty much every album with the same alembic+boss+peavey rig from what i understand...link:
