Do I Do by Stevie Wonder

Can anybody confirm for me who is playing this song. I believe its Nathan East but not totally sure. Heck at times it almost sounds like key bass, but I don't think it was all done there. Might just be some part doubling. I just had to learn this tune for a cover band and I really dig this part. It's fairly tricky but once I got comfortable with the changes it really lays in nice and its fun as heck to play.

Nathan Watts? Nathan East typically has a smoother feel and tone than this, which is quite "live", for want of a better word.

whatever, it sounds like electric bass to me.

"Do I Do" (1982) was Watts on an electric bass.

"That was done at Wonderland. Stevie was real comfortable with the whole band at that point, so we just went in and jammed and played what we wanted. He gave me more freedom on that song than on just about any other, and with [drummer] Dennis Davis laying it down strong and simple, there was a lot of room for me to stretch. I used my ’79 MusicMan StingRay, recorded direct, with no effects. The nasty, growly sound is just the tone of the bass, plus the strings being tuned down to Eb, which added more rattle and fret noise. In the video we shot, they had us all in black on a dark background; I wore a white cowboy hat because I wanted to make sure I got seen!"

interesting interview- I'm surprised to read it was a P bass on "Sir Duke".
