Here's the link to my latest video where you can read this ******'s comment.

I'd say, no. How long have you been playing and what bass is that?

I'm not familiar with the tune but it sounded alright to me. I just thought your thread title was kind of funny.

Anyway, with hard work and practice, I believe anyone can be a good player. Some players might have "talent" but that just means they can pick things up faster. I am one of the people that have to work hard at something to be good. I have no natural talent.

I wish my ear was better. I too often find myself relying on tabs and chord charts to play a song. Even a good ear can be developed at least somewhat.

Edit: My inability to play by ear to well is mostly my laziness of not wanting to take the time to figure a song out.

I liked that you didn't look at your fretboard the whole time...confident you know the notes. Play the song with out music and record yourself (for yourself) to see if you can do it with just the music in your head.

Sounds okay to me. FWIW, don't ever let the comments on YT get under your skin. Some of the meanest critiques I've ever come across in my life are directly aimed at YouTube clips of the world's finest bassists, including Wooten, Gary Willis, Billy Sheehan, and dozens more.

The point is, if they're taking shots at guys like that it's just proof that you can't please everybody in addition to the fact that everyone has an opinion. At least you're working on your playing and putting it out there - as opposed to posting anonymously on a video sharing site. The latter is significantly easier to do than the former.

I seen it, don't care for posting a comment on youtube.

Don't worry about other people's derogatory comments, you're obviously doing what you enjoy doing, we all start somewhere and to me, it sounds like you're on the right track. Just keep playing, always find ways to improve and never forget you can always learn, even from things that you may already know. Also give music theory a chance, when can, it helps immensely.

Definately don't suck! That was well played

The comment on youtube was so outrageously ridiculous. I'd try to shrug off youtube comments as best as you can - they're nothing but a collection of crude psuedo-insults mashed together into something that vaguely resembles a sentence.

Oh, and Kasabian's bassist plays this song with a pick. And from what I can hear, the tone you were getting from the pick was just what the song required; aggressive and biting.

Good job!

I looked in your profile. It says you're in the school jazz band. So you must read music, right? Good for you! Don't worry what other people think. It'll just cause you to waste your time. Listen to and learn music that you enjoy. Those who practice the most, play the best. Anyone who makes negative comments have issues you cannot control. Keep doin' what you're doin' and have fun.

Youre 13 and at that age youre sensitive about what you look like, sound like and if girls like you. When you put yourself out ther in cyberworld for all to see then you have to expect to get bashed. If you cant take the heat stay out of the kitchen. However I saw your video and you do show promise. Stick to it and in time experience will prevail. In the mean time play for a teacher who will rate you and not berate you.

Well I WAS going to say you were good, till I saw your comment on Youtube dissing on my Ibanez SR 500 series bass....

lol jk, its a cool bassline and you played it fine. Honestly though, Youtube is the LAST place I would look for "constructive criticism", but the last thing you need to be worrying about now is what everyone thinks of your playing....just focus on playing. At the age of 13, you have plenty of others things to worry about besides a bunch of internet prowling jerks on youtube think of your chops.

There are people far better than me, that goes without saying, but many people in bands signed to major labels or guys who have played for many years have commented saying I'm a "good bassist". I've played for about 5 years now and have never gleaned anything worthwhile from posting videos of my playing on the internet...unless it was original material. It really is a waste of time and you're going to give yourself ulcers, dude lol. Play often, play hard, and let your playing speak for your talent in person...don't bother trying to impress idiots who can't play and diss on players such as Marcus Miller, Geddy Lee, etc.

Oh, and no problems playing with a pick...but make sure you have fingerstyle down too. As bassists, our bread and butter is how versatile and improvisational we can be. That's just friendly advice though, because I've had many doors open up because I've exposed myself to both techniques and worked at being proficient in them.
