do any of you guys do all the recording, playing, and mixing yourself? how do you do it? links to some of your achievements would be awesome. :bassist:

Very cool. I have nothing to share yet but I finally bought myself some much needed tools for recording. Now I gotta figure out protools sigh. Is that drum samples u use free? Need to find something free or cheapish to make my own drum loops ect. Thanks

I do everything except vocals myself, would you be interested in hearing my stuff? Or is it a case of so near yet so far? :p

@Outlaw... there was a free version of the kit Natural Studio put out a long while ago. unfortunately they don't host it themselves anymore, and I lost the full original kit. I was lucky enough for someone to send it to me. NS has a full version of it though, with thousands of samples.

Recorded and mixed in my basement studio by yours truly. No software involved - it was done on an Alesis HD24 and mixed through a board, the way way grandpa used to do it. :D

thats great stuff! you did a much better job recording than I have so far.

I also did a bunch of solo stuff....still no singing on most of it (my friend recorded a few vocals). 2 full albums worth. currently looking for a band to perform them with.

Yeah, you don't need a professional set-up to start making half decent music. Hell, you don't even need a professional set-up to record amazing music. The song is what's important.

I use reaper for mixing cause it's cheap and I have a DI box for recording. My recording partner (who lives in a totally different country) and I pass recorded bits back and forth, then put it all together.

I think we do all right, it doesn't take much, don't be intimidated by it. Sure, your first 20-30 songs are going to sound like crap while you learn it but who cares, it's all fun!

Thank you, I've been involved with a lot of recording over the years, so it was fun to finally have complete control and responsibility from top to bottom.

My gear is very limited and primitive, but that's no excuse for anything...how many great records have been recorded 2-track for Pete's sake!

I like trying to think like a producer and figure out how to flesh a tune out through instrumentation and arrangement. Also try to keep a firm hand on the bassist not wanking too much. :D

Although I luck out on piano, I need my girlf's help with that.

I do the home studio thing too. The hardest part is probably keeping perspective, and keeping motivated when you're not achieving your vision. The tech part is mostly practice and developing your "ears."
