Doors 'Love Me Two Times'

Sign in to disble this ad
so watching Doors documentary and hearing their music again and coincidentally 'Love Me Two Times' was in rotation on my car radio this weekend.

The Doors had no bass pl;ayer, so presumably Ray Manzerak played the bass parts on a Rhodes e piano. But the more I listened to 'Love Me Two Times' that bass line sounds an awful lot like the Fender P bass sound prevalent in that era.

So did they bring in a bass player in the studio or did they just get that reportedly Fender Rhodes to emulate that sound?

This quote from Wikipedia: "Strange Days was the first Doors album recorded with a studio musician on bass, and this continued on all subsequent studio albums."

Love Me 2 Times was on "Strange Days".

I dunno who played on "Strange Days" but Doug Lubahn(sic?) and Jerry Scheff are two of several bass players that were recorded on Doors studio tracks.

It was a Fender/Rhodes Piano Bass...had the exact same range as a Fender electric bass.

File:Rhodes Piano Bass.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Doors used a few different bassists...Doug Lubahn, Lonnie Johnson, Leroy Vinegar, Harvey Brooks, Jason Scheff, etc.
Clip of Lubahn playing bass...he;s sitting & plays lefty.
The Doors - Wild Child - YouTube

In Densmore's book...he mentions that they auditioned a female bassist & how The Grateful Dead's roadie (IIRC) was always on their case because they had no bassist/bottom end.

LIVE? No...it's Manzarek.
Too, IIRC, their debut had no electric bass.

FWIW, that's what it says on Wikipedia, so it must be true.

I'm sure you just misposted (is that a word?), but I'm sure you meant Jerry Scheff, Father of Jason who currently plays and sings in Chicago...and probably wasn't born yet.

Well...I have listened to that album many, many times (not lately, though)...usually under the black lights.
I'm pretty sure it's just the 4 guys on the debut.
