DragonForce-Sped up?

Sign in to disble this ad
I was talking to a guy at school today(a guitarist guy who I dont particularly like, and I only talk to him because of stuff we have in common music wise)

and he said that "dragonforce solos are sped up, there is no way you can play that fast and that clean, they can play that fast live, but just not as cleanly"

Do you guys agree with this?

anyway, how does speeding up work? do they just detune their guitars to compensate for the speeding up?

I know there is a speed up without changing pitch option on audacity, but its a bit dodgy and doesnt keep the pitch completely the same

Pro tools?

Live=1 chance to pull it of
Recording=As many times as budget dictates.

I've seen em live and they play their songs just like on the albums.

That's a bunch of bull. My friend saw them live and it was not sloppy.

I concur my man. I've seen them a few times live and its pretty much exactly as the recording.

However when i saw them i did notice it took them a few songs to really gel. Its so fast that i cant imagine being able to keep with it!

Maybe the combination of synth guitar with the high-speed playing makes it sound sped up. They do you use synth/MIDI guitars, right? I can't imagine Ibanez making Nintendo-Wound Humbuckers.

The guitar signal is, at the very LEAST, highly processed if not synthesized to begin with.

On a side note: Couldn't Garrett Wang and Herman Li be brothers? I probably need glasses.

Well, I have a friend who won a contest for playing the best solo, and he says, they are somewhat as good live as in the studio.

Yeah, they tend to be *nearly* up to speed by the time they play live, and they do play live a hell of a lot, so you'd expect it. I'm just giving an honest answer, and I happen to know for a fact, that's all...

Their signal is heavily processed, and Herman tends to abuse his Whammy pedal which makes it sound very much like a keyboard lead. Unless you're just getting confused with the keys solo I don't know if they speed it up but they probably do other things to reduce noise (taping up strings, scrunchies on the neck etc) whilst recording.

It's not that they're sped up, they just seem to be completely lacking in fresh ideas.

they are somewhat original, they are very talented and technical, the best thing is, it is something more then the power chords of todays music.

They're nots sped up. They don't do as well live because they're drunk. If your friend thinks that Dragonforce is sped up, then he probably hasn't been exposed to enough pretentious lead guitarists. Which is probably better for his long term health anyway.

There are a lot of bands who play a similar style but do it (IMO) a lot better. However, they don't have the profile that Dragonforce have outside of mainland Europe. Dragonforce are selling out large venues and getting more kids into power metal and for that I salute them
