We've done lots of drum and bass band threads before.
How about dual bass (as in, no guitar) bands.
So, like, not Ned's Atomic Dustbin.
There probably won't be very many.

Ornette Coleman has been using two basses on and off since his Prime Time band in the mid 70s.

Then there were some cool Pharoah Sanders sides with Stanley Clarke and Cecil McBee both on upright, and no guitars to be seen.
Sun Ra used two basses and no guitars at both the shows I saw him play too. |

Ronald Shannon Jackson's Decoding Society used two bassists in their early lineups (late 70's to mid 80's)

I can think of a fair number of bands with guitar and two bassists playing BG though. Of those, the mid-80s version of Prime Time was probably my favorite, but none of the recordings I've heard measure up to the live experience. |
