Duets, trio's - Bass and melody instrument?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for suggestions for CD's for listening to line-ups featuring the Bass (Electric or Upright) and a melody (non-chordal) instrument.

e,g, Bass and Sax, Bass and Violin, etc.

Also anything like this with Drums as well; in fact just about any line-up that doesn't include Guitar/Keys or other traditional chord-playing instruments. I'm inclined more towards the melodic and funky for actual performance ideas rather than full-on "out" stuff, although I certainly wouldn't mind hearing some of this.

I'm looking for inspiration (ok; ideas to steal) for doing some material with a bud who plays Sax. His sister is also a very talented Vocalist.

Slaughterhouse 3 (Gary Willis). Not your traditional bass/drums/sax trio, but worth a listen if you like a different perspective on the format. I see Willis is involved with a similar concept, Triphasic, which might also be interesting to check out.
