Anyone else get a chance to listen to it yet? I've only been able to skim through the tracks, but so far I'm liking what I hear. John Taylor seems to have plenty of tasty basslines to please any fan. I'm also liking how it sounds like a Duran Duran album and not a DD + Timberland album. The only thing I'm surprised by is that I didn't even know they had released a new album until about an hour ago. Apparently they really didn't market it much in the US... or I'm just unaware of what's going on in the music world these days. |

The songs are excellent - and generally remind me of Rio or Seven and the Ragged Tiger. There's a very small diversion into Red Carpet.. territory at one point (Safe ...) but it's not too bad - and you might argue that it's in fact closer to the sound on their first album. The standout track is The Man Who Stole a Leopard - epic DD at their best.
The bass playing is outstanding from start to finish. Girl Panic is classic JT. All You Need is Now reminds me of The Reflex a little. Some of JT's work needs time to be fully understood (Notorious, The Power Station, Liberty, Neurotic Outsiders for example). This album doesn't seem to. The bass is right up front - where it belongs.
I can't wait to pull the Aria off the wall and jam out to this one.

The bass is mixed well and really move the songs. 'Girl Panic!' is my favorite so far. 'Safe (In The Heat Of The Moment' has a pumpin' bassline. |

The new album? From what I've heard, it sounds like DD -- for better or worse. Some people will like that it sounds like 1985, others won't.
At any rate, I'm not hearing any hits or songs that would be even hits in their heyday. That's the nature of things though. Very few bands make that transition and everyone has their vital period. Bring together the same chemistry and you're going to get the same thing -- but with less energy.
It'd be cool to hear John get with some younger guys and bring his thing into something new. |

I'm looking to learn a few songs (Safe, Girl Panic, AYNIN, Runway Runaway, Other People's Lives & Too Bad You're So Beautiful)
Idk why everyone seems to dislike Red Carpet Massacre, I though it was pretty good. I also have a tab for The Valley if anyone would like it. It's got a pretty cool JT bass solo. I just tabbed it yesterday so I know it's not anywhere else | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
