You will loose some quality, but better than all distorted would be to make a analog transfer in real time.

Check out http://www.videohelp.com/dvd for some suggestions. Be sure to check out there "How To" section.

Good luck!

If you have a Mac, maybe try Handbrake?

Take the Analog output of your DVD player (Left and Right) and go into the analog input of your sound card. This is assuming a whole bunch of things, like.....you have a computer, you have a sound card, you have analog inputs/Aux where you can go from RCA analog out on your DVD player to 1/8" inputs on your sound card. This also assumes you know how to used a program (that probably came with your soundcard/computer) to record the audio coming into the analog inputs from your assumed sound card from the DVD player.

Was that Video Help site any help?

instead of analog, use DVD Audio Ripper. This program digitally extracts the audio of DVD movies in WAV (MP3 too) format. You can get a much better copy this way than with analog.

Just make sure to run the Sound Normalizer inside the program to get the levels set, to avoid clipping and at the same time get it as loud as possible.

Also, it automatically splits the WAV at chapters, which is nice.

If you're just primarily interested in the audio, consider using Total Recorder from High Criteria ( http://www.highcriteria.com/ ). It uses a number of input alternatives and you can set the recording quality. If you really need the video, can you set the bitrate on the recording device you're using to accommodate the ripping software? Of course, another alternative would be to find a ripper that allows setting the bitrate to support the bitrate of your recorder.

i donot mean to bring up a dead thread, i just curious is there anyone can drop me a hint? for when i rip DVD audio with my DVD AUDIO RIPPER, it turns out to be smaller than the my original DVD file size, i mean the output file is not as a whole, it seems just a part.
Anyways, thanks to anyone that can offer some insight here.
