Early Alternative Rock

Sign in to disble this ad
So I am working in a newly formed alternative rock cover band. We are looking to be able to play bars / clubs but also want to do some corporate stuff, which requires us to play to some diverse people. As alternative didn't really begin until the 80s, we'd like to add some "proto-alternative" stuff from the 60s and 70s that will appeal to an older crowd and still fit thematically with the alt stuff. So we have picked a few already (Suffragette City by Bowie, Back in the USSR by the Beatles, Once in a Lifetime by the Talking Heads, Kick Out the Jams by MC5... you get the idea), but we could use some help! Upbeat and dancy perfered!

Who has suggestions?

Velvets, and Stooges if you're feeling ballsy.

Nothing says "cut loose, dudes!" to drunk, office party people than "My Sharona".

"Love Is The Drug" by Roxy Music should be an eye-opener.

Effing GREAT song!!!!! Fun song to play, also. We played that in my high school band; the band members were all huge DEVO fans, the high school partygoers/dancers/whatever were kind of perplexed. We also played "Gut Feeling/Slap Your Mommy" and "Mongoloid" as well as about 3 songs from Gary Numan "First Album". Good days....
