Edgar Winter's Frankenstein

Sign in to disble this ad
So Edgar Winter wrote Frankenstein way back when, and I've got copies of both Phish and Marcus Miller doing their covers of the song. When I heard the song on the radio on Friday, none of these versions were the one played. Who besides these three has released recorded versions of Frankenstein?

Thanks TB

I have loved that track since I was a kid driving around with my mom in her Caprice Classic.

It could have been a version done by Rick "Rock and Roll Hoochie-Koo" Derringer. He used to be a part of the Edgar Winter crew.

Overkill covered "Frankenstein".
..also, search allmusic for others.

BTW, killer live version on the Old Grey Whistle Test DVD with Derringer on guitar, not Montrose.

Garey Hoey did a pretty good version about a year ago

Back in the 70's my band did that tune - we two arp 2600s on stage (the keyboard player & me) and totally nailed it. Wish I had a recording.

There's also a live version by Johnny Winter on the expanded edition of "Second Winter" from 1970 and features Edgar. Not nearly as good as Edgar's own studio version.

I thought it was pretty cool how you could hear the genesis of that song from Johnny's band to the one he finally recorded.
