Effects for growled vocals

Hi

I am new to recording and embarking on a personal project for which I need "growled" vocals such as in this song:

My understanding is that there must be some kind of effects involved. Can anyone tell me if this is right? How could I achieve something similar? I am using Sonar 7 producer.

Thanks a lot

EDIT: I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum for posting this. Please move if needed!

Probably not the right forum. But I use to play Death/Doom and sing it. Not everyone can pull it off, Iy comes pretty easy for me. You have to growl from the throat. You can double track it to thicken and use some verb.Thats all that singer is doing.

Yeah really no effects on the Mournful song man, it's all with the throat. Look up some videos on you tube to guide you, you can do some serious damage to your vocal chords if you force it!
